About the Archive

Bridge between
Oral and Digital

Long before papers and digital archiving, the hills of Nagaland carried their stories in many ways: songs, tales and dances. This platform is the bridge between the orality and digital space to inform the present and future generations about the cultural heritage of the state. This represents the people of the past and their legacy that continued till today which creates a pathway to connect our today’s story to the future understanding of a culture.

The Tribes of Nagaland

The archive currently hosts some folksongs from the Angami, Ao, Lotha, Sumi, and Konyak tribes, along with photographs documenting performance contexts and community settings. This is a beginning, not a boundary. We intend to expand the archive to include more tribes, more oral forms, and deeper contextual documentation as the project grows.
